Find Colorado Vacation Rentals

Usually, the draw for a vacation rental in Colorado is all about the outdoors.  As the 8th largest state in the Union and home to at least a good part of the famed Rocky Mountains, the state attracts skiers, hikers, fishermen (and fisherwomen), rock climbers, and other sport enthusiasts by the hundreds.  And thanks to a longstanding interest in art, music, good food, and good wine, foodies and culture vultures have made Colorado their destination as well.  But Crestone?  That’s a little different.

There’s no straight-arrow route to Crestone, and the town itself is not particularly impressive at first glance.  Of course, you can spend your time in Crestone enjoying the great outdoors, especially if you like camping, fishing, and climbing.  And bring your camera: Crestone has an impressive setting at the base of the jagged Sangre de Cristo Mountains, and some of the other High Peaks that make the South Central section of Colorado famously breathtaking are nearby.  You’re also near the Rio Grande National Forest, the San Isabel National Forest, and the Great Sand Dunes National Preserve.

The main draw for Crestone, at lease recently, has been of a less earthly nature.  It’s a popular place for spiritual and New Age centers; you can literally go from Ashram to Zen in the religious listings of this tiny town.  Various churches and schools of thought are represented, including Buddhism, Roman Catholicism, and Hinduism.

You’ll find Crestone rather challenging to get to; it’s one hour south of Salida, three hours southwest of Colorado Springs, and three hours west of Pueblo.  (Remember to allow extra time for navigating those curvy mountain roads.)  Pueblo’s airport is the closest; it’s three hours to Durango-La Plata Airport and 5 hours to Aspen Pitkin Airport.

A vacation rental in Crestone isn’t meeting your needs?  Check out Durango and Colorado Springs for other options.
