From the capital city of Denver to the southern towns of Durango and Pagosa Springs, kids and parents will enjoy a variety of activities and attractions year-round. Nestled in the mountain towns of Colorado and among the sprawling wilderness areas, families will find a wealth of indoor and outdoor activities to suit visitors of all ages.

If you want to climb a mountain, scream on a rollercoaster or see a wild animal, Colorado has got you covered. Kids love the many options for fun in this state, and parents love that the whole family can stay happy and occupied during a vacation of any length. Some of the top family attractions in the state are the many amusement parks, aquariums and zoos. Near downtown Denver, families love Water World, Elitch Gardens and Lakeside Amusement Park. Denver is also home to the Downtown Aquarium and the Denver Zoo. In other parts of the state, families can have a day full of fun at the Butterfly Pavilion, the Wild Animal Sanctuary, the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo and the Colorado Gators Farm.

For the nature lovers in the family, Colorado is full of amazing, unspoiled natural wonders. From the peaks of some of the highest mountains to the beautiful, lush valleys, Colorado will be too much to explore in just one family vacation. Pick a region that interests your family the most to make sure everyone has a great time. In central Colorado, Colorado Springs and the Pike National Forest region offer great places to hike, bike and simply enjoy the scenery. In southern and southwest Colorado, history and culture prevail with many historical and archaeological sites providing ample activities for families. Stay in towns like Silverton, Durango and Ouray to get a true Colorado experience. In western Colorado, remnants of ancient civilizations sit right next to famous resort towns.

During the winter months, some of the best family fun can be had at winter sports areas that are peppered across the landscape in Colorado. When the snow starts falling, vacationers take to the slopes for a family vacation full of downhill adventure. Many resorts offer diverse terrain that will suit skiers and snowboarders of all ages. Check resort websites to make sure that the kids will be able to handle the trails of the bigger mountains, or simply head to a smaller mountain to ensure the fun and safety of the whole family. The winter months are a great time to get the family out on the mountains during the day, and surrounding a fireplace at a fantastic vacation rental at night. No matter what brings you to Colorado on your next vacation, the family is sure to have a fun-packed trip.
